Monghoul 1.12.3

Most of this release is the small things you look at every day. You could not tell whether a switch was off. Some labels were too faint to read, including the banner that appears when the backend stops. A button did not line up with the field beside it. None of that is a headline on its own, and together it is most of what using Monghoul feels like. Toolbars also stop wrapping onto a second line when a panel gets narrow, and several controls that keyboard users had no way to reach are reachable now.

Highlights

• Switches show when they are off — The off state of every switch was too faint to see against its surroundings on all of the built-in themes.
• The server-lost banner is readable — The message shown when the backend stops, and the button that restarts it, were the hardest things to read on several themes.
• Cancelling a long job closes the dialog — Cancelling an import, an export or a data generation left the form sitting there as though nothing had happened.
• Toolbars stay on one line — The query, cluster monitor and users toolbars broke onto as many as four rows on a narrow panel.
• Connecting an assistant comes first — AI Access shows the server address and the configuration snippets as soon as access starts, above the permission settings.
• Hovering a theme colour makes it pulse — Everything that uses that colour brightens and dims, instead of flashing bright magenta.

Improved

• Toolbars stay on one line — The query, cluster monitor and users toolbars broke onto as many as four rows on a narrow panel. Each one now shortens its least useful control first.
• Controls that share a row now match — Across the dialogs, the licence window and the tab toolbars, buttons, pickers and toggles take the height, corner and edge of the field they sit with.
• A database rename shows progress and can be stopped — Stopping it leaves the original database untouched and a partial copy under the new name.
• Every tab says what kind it is — Each tab carries one icon for its kind, coloured by the connection it belongs to. Query and JSON tabs had no icon, and a Users tab never showed its connection.
• The cluster monitor's toolbar reads as one row — Pause now matches the controls beside it, and a green "Live" that only repeated what Pause said is gone.
• Cluster monitor colour means something is wrong — Trend lines took their colour from the set used for warnings, so a healthy cluster drew red and amber lines.
• A role's details open under its row — The panel on the right took a fixed third of the tab, which left the table almost nothing on a narrow panel. Roles with many privileges group by resource.
• Users and roles keep their order — Refreshing either list reshuffled every row.
• The users toolbar stops shouting — New User was the only filled button and the only bold label in its row, above a table that already colours a chip on every line.
• Generate Data's field settings line up with their field — Each setting sits under the field's name and carries a label, so opening one no longer breaks the column the list just taught you.
• Help is on the words it explains — Labels that have an explanation carry a dashed underline and show it on hover or keyboard focus, in place of the small icon beside them.
• A chosen option no longer looks like a button — Toggles painted their chosen side in the same colour as the button that acts, so a screen could show two green controls that did different things.
• Text from your database is not re-cased — A replica set's name and the operation chips in the cluster monitor were shouted in capitals.
• Create User and Create Role open narrower — Both were wide enough to leave a long gap between a group's name and the control at the end of its row.

Accessibility

• Chips and tags are readable on every theme — Role, risk and status tags drew their text in the same colour their background was tinted with.
• The version and operation counts are readable — Both sat in the status bar too faint to read on every built-in theme.
• Method tabs are readable on every theme — In the connection dialog, the chosen tab's label was too faint against its background.
• Focused buttons stay visible — Buttons that appear on hover in the sidebar and the log viewer vanished when reached by keyboard, including two that delete.
• Segmented toggles answer the keyboard — Toggles such as the monitor's view switch and Users and Roles take one tab stop and move with the arrow keys, and say which option is selected.
• AI Activity answers the arrow keys — The panel said to use the arrow keys and Escape to move through the list, and neither did anything.
• Run and Stop keep their names — On a narrow query toolbar both lose their labels, which left a screen reader with two unnamed buttons.
• Theme colour fields are named — The colour fields in the theme editor announced nothing to a screen reader and showed no focus indicator.
• A rejected field says so to a screen reader — Text fields and text areas now announce that they are invalid and read out the error message belonging to them.

Fixed

AI Access

• The connect command is shown once it works — The setup flow offered a configuration command with an empty address, because there is no address until access starts.

Query

• Explain and the Builder toggle stay put — Both vanished from the toolbar on a narrow panel, which left anyone in builder mode unable to get back to the editor.
• A field picker's list opens against its field — In the chart wizard, a short list of fields opened a long way above the box it belongs to, with a gap between the two.

Import and Export

• Cancelling a long job closes the dialog — Cancelling cleared the progress bar and returned the form to its starting state without saying that anything had happened.

Tabs

• A document that fails to load says so — A JSON or Markdown tab that could not load its contents showed an empty editor, which looked the same as a document with nothing in it.

Report Issue

• A busy button keeps its label beside its icon — While diagnostics were being collected the download arrow sat above the word instead of beside it.

Create Index

• An invalid partial filter is reported while you type — The field marks itself, explains what is wrong and holds the Create Index button, instead of failing after you press it.
