Databases · 5 engines, one licence

Five databases in one IDE, each in its own terms

Monghoul connects to MongoDB, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, SQLite and Redis or Valkey. Results open in one grid, Explain and the Database Map work on the four that have plans and keys, and write protection asks before a write on every engine. Each engine keeps its own words: a SQLite file has no host, and a Redis key has no rows. What 2.0 adds, engine by engine.

The Create Connection dialog with its Database type list open on five engines, then the SQLite form with a file and no server, then the Redis form with a database number
Connections · One dialog, and the form follows the engine you pick

What each engine gets

A feature shows on an engine only where that engine has the thing it reads: Explain needs a query planner, and the Database Map needs tables or collections. Rows marked Pro need the licence on every engine that has them.

01 · MongoDB · Free, monitor and users on Pro

A MongoDB IDE that completes from the data in your collections

  • Does it autocomplete nested fields and real values?
  • Can I build an aggregation pipeline visually?
  • How do I find the index a slow query needs?
  • Can I open the document an id points to?

02 · PostgreSQL · Free, monitor on Pro

A PostgreSQL IDE that checks every edit before it commits

  • Does completion know my tables and foreign keys?
  • How do I see why a PostgreSQL query is slow?
  • Can I filter by a value in the result?
  • Can I run a whole SQL script?
PostgreSQL in Monghoul →
A PostgreSQL draft tab: a SELECT in the editor and its rows in the result grid, with the row count, the cap and the time in the status line

03 · ClickHouse · Free, monitor on Pro

A ClickHouse IDE that shows the granules a query reads

  • How many granules does my ClickHouse query read?
  • Can I use {name:Type} parameters?
  • How does it edit rows when ClickHouse has no transactions?
  • What if an edit only partly applies?
ClickHouse in Monghoul →
Explain of a ClickHouse read: the plan, with the sorting key pruning the read to 3 of 1,256 granules

04 · SQLite · Free

A SQLite IDE that opens your database file as it is

  • Does it keep large integers and BLOBs exact?
  • Can I see the query plan as a tree?
  • How do grid edits stay safe with no row version?
  • Which parameter forms does it read?
SQLite in Monghoul →
A SQLite Browse draft whose rows hold an INTEGER past 2^53 kept exact, a REAL, NULL, a long TEXT and a BLOB shown as bytes

05 · Redis · Free, monitor and export on Pro

A Redis IDE that checks a key before it writes it

  • How do I browse millions of Redis keys without KEYS?
  • Can I edit a hash field and review it before it is written?
  • What if another client changed the key while I edited it?
  • Does the console ask before a destructive command?
